The dot in the middle of her forehead is called a bindi and is worn by both men and women as a symbol of their religion, social cast and marital status. In most Indian cultures, a married person wears a red bindi.
Men dont wear bindi, only women wear the red india dot. Men use tilak, which is a paste oh kumkum/roli. The difference is that women's bindi are used basically everyday and they come with a light glue. Tilak is used in rituals and prayers.
