I'm tearing up I'm not even joking. This is such a nice post and these stories really make me happy and appreciate my dogs SO much more. Every dog deserves love
Guest has a point. We had a pit bull we loved to pieces and trusted with our lives and she attacked my youngest son. I'm not a mother anymore. While I understand not all pit bulls are like this, statistically, they are very over represented when it comes to fatal attacks on children and had we known this my husband and I never would have adopted one. It's not a one off, we didn't train her badly and it is partly because of their breed. Normally I don't comment but this is really quite a dangerous misconception
Hey first off I'm not gonna comment on guest- if they really did lose their kid that's awful and I'm really sorry for their loss. Why tf would they lie about that though, I mean my dogs have both had the shit ripped out of them by pits, and I don't think every pit is bad I just think you need to be more careful with them than most breeds...
I'm sorry, that website is an anti-pit group so I can't believe any statistics they say. We all know you can twist statistics around to make whatever point you want. I tend to think the overrepresentation of pitbull attacks may be lumping any midsize dog as a pitbull. They are the latest "demon" dog so they are given too much credit for attacks. When I was a kid the Doberman was the evil dog, people knew for a fact that they all would attack and maul their owners and everyone around them. They were sure about physiological traits that guaranteed violence (a popular one was that the skull was too small for the brain).
The word pitbull is a buzzword and a catchall for mutts and bad dogs. I'm pretty sure no newspaper will report on a Straffodshire Terrier attack but call it a pitbull and now you have a story.
Guest, I am truly sorry for your loss but I can't believe that your tragedy happened simply because of the breed.
My husband & I have been together for almost 7 years. We tried to have a baby, but gave up because we thought we could never have children. As a result, we adopted our very first Bully Pit, Lulu. We then adopted a Red Nose, Zeus. They were the most loveable and spoiled creatures ever. Unfortunately, Lulu passed away. I was 6 months pregnant when we lost her on Mother's Day in 2012. My husband & I are huge dog lovers. We adopted 2 more pitbulls whom were just as lovely, Lily & Miracle, whom I would call Milagros. And a little mix breed named Rocko. We adopted Lily from a family who saved her from being used as a bait dog. Her mean owners poured acid on her back & clipped her ears badly. Despite the past Lily had, she was a sweetheart, especially with my son. All the dogs we've owned are nothing but loving & protective, also. I know this comment is long, but I just wanted to share a small portion of my life. If a dog attacks, it's not its fault.
There are hundreds of "open minded" people now mourning the loss of their children because they bought into this Pitbull propaganda. It's a shame people have to experience what these dogs are capable of first hand before realizing the truth about them.
The problem is people leave dogs alone in the room with children, any dog no matter what breed and no matter how well raised can flip and attack.
The problem with pitbulls particularly is that they are terriers, generally a breed that will not stop shaking and let go of their victim until their it is limp, even my parents JRT is like this and he's a tiny thing.
Pitbulls also have very strong jaws and do more damage than other breeds.
They only want love.
Food too, but mostly love.
But mostly love.
If anyone suggested doing either to my beautiful baby girl, I'd knock them the fuck out.

Bad training can't account for that big an over representation
