Making the most of available space, older houses also had a thing called style, not like the cookie cutter things that pass for housing now days, a house near me in town has curved windows in a turret, I'll snap and post a pic next time I go to town.

Well corners are supposed to hold a lot of the structure's weight, so putting a window there without any kind of support in the middle would most likely undermine the whole structure's stability.. idk tho..

While that would normally be the case, the way this window is made the frame is replacing the otherwise missing support.

Post and beam construction means no external walls are load bearing.

I bet it really made for an amazing view. Just think about how much farther around outside you would be able to see like that!
