Stress induced anxiety is one of the main causes of child suicide. And most kids don't get stressed because they're unemployed. Stress can also come from situations at home but it's bad to say that school can't be a possibility.
The problem is that (at least in the grand ol usa) the education system sucks ass. It doesn't teach students critical thinking skills, standardized tests are stupid, teachers are underpaid and underappreciated, leading to some teachers not giving any fucks whatsoever, etc. -kid with massive ego bc I'm good at taking tests and think I'm smarter than I am.
I get 16 standardized tests a year. I've learned, when doing an assignment, to cater to what the teacher likes (colours, jokes, gifts) in order to achieve good grades.
I second this. I have a master's degree. Last year, one of our exams was entirely about one little detail of a scientific's life, 2 lines in the lesson, totally useless in a job. This is sadly not the only example, over the years I've learned scientific trivia but without any substance.
For fun the other day I bought a magazine about rocks, made for kids, and I actually learned from it. I've a license in geology, and my grades were OK.
We also noticed that teachers have kids they like more than others, and I once got 5 more points on a completely bullshitted paper than my best friend who actually knew what he was talking about.
This is a problem because after a while, you loose the will to work hard and well.
Also (and after that I'll stop, promise), a kid can't be "too smart", he's "arrogant", "tests the teacher's patience", if you know stuff in advance it's because "your parents are cramming it in your head", and the first mistake you make, the teachers make endlessly fun of you.
The idea of education is good it's the tests and the material being taught that aren't helpful. All that stress for nothing.

I used to find school fun and just used to hate on it for a bit of banter. I'm in my finall year and it's all changed. The teachers are unrealistic, never up to help anyone except the top students, all the traditions are being taken away making it less fun, the school forces us to be robotic and simply not care about emotions/food/sleep. It's becoming ridiculously hard to make it through.
@asaw this is the best post in a while. I see some of you realize adult life, and realize wusses that cry over "problems" while there are real problems in the world only make world shittier place. By making America small again. If you want "better" school, it's very easy, move to Scandinavia. And fall down with them. Trust you me, Yugoslavia had free education, no taxes, you got communal apartments, 6h worktime, holiday days off, 13th paycheck, 0% unemployment, 3rd child was govt's child ,one policeman per town of 15000,helpfull,not "brutal",presidents' children were arrested for not paying a bus ticket..... That's not normal. Free stuff IS unsustainable. My mother '87 had 1000$, '89 100$, '91...2$. If you want free school, both money free and hours off for rest, you move to socialist heaven... And die in few years.
Plus you do get some teachers who don't care about teaching and just make you do assignment upon assignment and make you feel dumb if you don't get it because they won't help. I've had many of them
Yes, because it's not like your education holds any bearing on the entire course of the rest of your life. Please do note all due sarcasm

School is the start of life, and unless you get really fucking lucky, you have to do really good in school in order to get a good job to be well off in later life. School should be taken seriously, it's what determines your future.
^
Like of course you get people who slack off and don't do work then act all surprised when they're cheating the welfare system instead of making a 6 figure salary
But it's also true that the school system really needs to be fixed if many students are stressing to the point of depression because teachers put WAY too much pressure and treat them more like children than adults for no reason
I have no idea what anyone's level of pressure is in grade school. But i know pressure is a part of life. And for most people the amount of pressure that will get apllied to them only goes up over time. In fact growing up is really just learning to overcome those pressures and moving on to the next challenge. It's a necessary part of progressing the human species. Could it be that the overwelming pressure young people are talking about is a matter of perspective? Maybe pressure is'nt something that we're a victim to but rather a natural part of growing? More of an opportunity to grow instead of an enemy holding us down?
