That is fucked up. Dude shouldn't have hit her, but they're at a bar people lose their cool way easier when intoxicated and provoked. Shit, I don't understand why people have to pretend how passionate they are by making up bullshit. You don't have to be a victim to understand what other people have endured. This makes me so mad.
If I go up and punch someone randomly, and they beat me the hell up in retaliation, they'd be justified. He was justified here, it was just a slap and in defense. That's really not that bad.
You can also take this as a grain of salt. Don't throw water in someones face and you wont get slapped...or better yet heres an idea keep your hands and objects to yourself and be respectful. 9 times out of 10 if youre minding your own business you will have a good time.
Sounds to me like two different recollections of the same story. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyewitness_testimony). Why would whoever made this believe the pink facebooker was lying because the barman contradicted her but not that the barman was lying because the pink facebooker contradicted him?
Okay, don't throw water/liquid on people. That's stepping up a verbal argument to a physical one. However, if your first reaponse to having liquid dumped on you is to slap somebody, instead of throwing liquid back or alerting staff, that's an issue of its own. How often do people say "she shouldn't have slapped him for something so minor?" Same case here. Should've just reported her or made her wear a beer.
Not to necessarily say that the girl's story is true- but why do we assume that the fact that her and the bar employee gave contradictory accounts means that she's the one distorting the truth? Agreed- seeking attention is a possible motive for her to lie but, as you pointed out yourself, the bar's business could suffer from confirming the story- meaning he has equal motive to downplay the events. I suspect that the truth is somewhere in the middle but really wouldn't pass judgement here until I got confirmation from the police or saw the footage (provided that it exists). I don't quite feel like you've done the legwork to really discount her claim or to portray it as representative of some sort of chronic misuse of feminism.
Maybe those men shouldn't feel it's okay to catcall and verbally abuse women because they're drunk, then none of it would've happened. As a girl in uni I'm sick of the comments disgusting men feel it's acceptable to say to women just because 'they're not actually harming you', because it's incredibly intimidating and in some cases quite frightening. They are all to blame.
The men were wrong to be catcalling, but the women handled it in a not much more mature way, though I think it does need to be a bit more understood that main problem isn't completely her reaction, cause they're in a bar, everyone's stupid, but the fact that she lied about certain factors, and tried to slander the bar afterward, look at it with the sexes reversed (and not straight forward cat calling), and see if anyone still looks smart
I'm so sick of the teenagers on this site thinking they know how the world works. It's exhausting. For people that post like a hundred "no fucks given" memes a day, you all sure seem to get all up is everyone's business. Adult out.
The sheer fact that you had to do so much investigating in order to "believe" the story is very representative of the female struggle: every facet of the story must be ripped apart and examined in order to be legitimized. You should have ended your investigation with calling the bar because it substantiated her story. Period. You think the bar man saw everything going on in the fight? You think the bar man could potentially minimize a "slap" as just being a slap, knowing good and well that a man's strength can still be felt whether open handed or close fisted?
Seriously, water in the face does not equate to getting hit. Period. No matter the sex. But because the woman told her story that makes a man (not all men) look bad, it must be questioned.
Considering how often this shit happens I can understand why someone would go far to see if a story is true or not. Can't tell you how often I've seen girls paint themselves the victim. Had a classmate claim she was bein harassed because she made a rape joke online. Turns out she made a fanart and when people told her using the term rape in a joking manner was wrong she started causing a scene. She later said on facebook that people should leave her alone because it's just a joke. But it's a joke on a public site where victims of actual rape access often. And she also claims that the word "fuck" is worse than the word "rape."
To go from disgusting uncomfortable comments to throwing water is a step up but I don't see if as ridiculous and certainly not assault irrelevant to its legal distinction however to go from a woman throwing water to a guy actually hitting the woman is a different level and completely unacceptable. And I do think the bar are ridiculous for throwing the women out for being hit then having to defend themselves by hitting back and it escalating into a fight. And the cctv may not have been a lie, while the bar may have offered it over it doesn't necessarily make it clear or useful, I don't know so I can't judge the women to be right but I also don't think they should he judged to be victim playing liars. . .
I don't take PEOPLE's accounts seriously. At least until the evidence starts rolling in.
