My school has a special program that does this every semester

My school did this, too. Everyone got a message, and it brightened up a ton of days. Sadly, they were all from a list of the same, what, 40 messages? I saw two lockers directly next to one-another that said "you are the most unique person on earth", haha.

That's my point. It's just a symbolic gesture totally devoid of meaning. No one cares about most of these people, for some reason, they just don't want them to kill themselves.

For "some reason". People are precious, everyone is. These are school kids so I think ANY gesture that makes them feel loved is worth it.

Receiving a note virtually identical to hundreds to thousands of others right after a suicide sure as hell wouldn't make me feel loved.

It would make me feel loved. Identical or not a note saying you're valued is better then nothing. Every life is worth the same. That's my opinion though, you can think otherwise if want.

What makes you feel loved, third?

Something directed at me specifically that has no relation to external stimuli.

Everything is related to external stimuli.

External to the context. For example, I use my free time to help a friend finish a project I have no involvement in, and the next day he gives me a card saying what a great friend/person I am, that is a genuine feeling that I appreciate. The trigger lies purely within the context of our relationship. NOT some other student killing themselves and the next day I get a card saying that, much less everyone else in the school receiving virtually identical ones. That is just a generic, artificial "caring" that has nothing to do with me specifically and is therefore devoid of any meaning.

In Spain every time that a student commits suicide, which has happened 18 times in 10 years, the government has to step in and find a solution
