Elpis, the concept of hope. Was this also a sin meant to stay in the box? And why would it stay in the box?

Hope didn't mean to stay from what I remember. It got caught on the lip of the jar and then Pandora closed it. It's not like hope was like 'ha, nah ya'll I'm staying here' not hope did try to escape.
