I'm alright with religious people tbh, I just don't like those who don't think clearly, and try to force their beliefs on me or their beliefs start affecting my life.
Really though, that could be said of all people.
I actually know some pretty intelligent people who happen to be religious and they can respect the fact that I'm not religious like I can respect the fact that they are.
I might poke fun at religion sometimes, but I'm just a dick like that sometimes and it's always in good fun and never hateful.
As a devout Catholic, a democrat, and someone who believes in all science (evolution, carbon dating, etc.) Im here to tell you that it IS possible for thinking and religion to coexist. You just have to be comfortable saying, "no, I don't think gay marriage is viewed any less favorably in Gods eyes" or "no, i don't think trans people just have a mental problem." If you can be religious and still have a live-and-let-live attitude, then most people won't have any problems with you
In addition, the type of Christianity that says "everyone has to do what I believe" is VERY American. I come from a French religious background that really doesn't push missionary activity of any sort besides helping other people and crediting your work to God. Just look at Europe--there are plenty of Christians, but they're not so anti-science over there at all. Thoughts?

I agree 100%. I mean you get a very FEW that are like that but not many at all.
I don't get how over there Christians can be so anti science when the Vatican has a telescope that studies the stars and looks for life BEYOND our own.
The Vatican itself accepts all modern scientific theory including evolution and carbon dating among others. However, they don't require Catholics to accept it, they just read Genesis as a poetic interpretation of creation, and not something to be taken literally.
(Catholics are not largely Bible literalists)
I prefer squirrel turds.
Not personally. For the joke.

My gramma was talking about how she can't believe how anyone could be athiest because God has done so much for her and I'm sitting there all awkward because I'm athiest and I don't have the heart to tell her
You know my religion has made me happy and that is my deal with it. I think the morals keep me out of physical issues and they make sense to me. Im just curious though think about what necessarily. Do you think we should follow the social constructed morals or find our own morals individually. You could argue that the German people in WW2 did nothing wrong if they personally believed that was right. Their morals were constructed by their government and honestly where do we come off saying ours are superior and better than theirs. The only reason they were depicted as the baddest of the bad was because we won the war. If they won in this day and age they would have switched around on us. We would grow up with different morals that today would be considered evil.
Religion and thinking can coexist. I'm just annoyed about those who think in black and white and cannot see past that.
