A very real problem with bringing up kids "gun free" is they likely never learn the rules, only that guns are bad. So if they ever do end up around a gun, they're actually a lot more prone to gun related accidents. When I was little my grandfather took me out and had me shoot a soda can. Naturally it was shredded. He then picked it up and showed it to me, and impressed upon me that I could have just as easily done that to a person. He then made sure I understood never to point a gun at anything I didn't fully intend to kill. Bottom line, don't just raise kids away from guns and tell them they're bad. Teach people how to properly handle a gun in a controlled manner, and they become exponentially safer around them.
You make a point, but I could also argue that you feel that way because you are in an environment where guns are a thing.
I'm a french guys, 21yo, and never in my life have I encountered a gun (aside from those carried by police officers / army (in trainstations and shit)). So I don't feel the need AT ALL to know how to handle a gun, since (and I'm not joking here), I have a VERY HIGH chance of cruising through life without ever touching one.
Obviously, if I wanted to use one (say I wanted to hunt, or for some reason I would go to a shooting range) then I would need to be taught how to handle them safely, but thats highly unlikely.
That's fair, in places where guns aren't as prevalent it probably isn't as big a deal. But keep in mind that it only takes one incident to really shaft someone forever. Which could be prevented by learning/ teaching the basics (something entirely doable in less than half an hour).
There was actually a lawsuit against a gun manufacturer over lack of gun safety. Some idiot was shooting a gun, took the magazine out, pointed the gun at his friend, pulled the trigger, and was shocked when the gun fired and killed his friend. He seriously didn't think the gun would fire without the magazine. His mom didn't think the gun should have fired either and sued the gun manufacturer for wrongful death. You could follow basic gun safety or just do whatever you want, then sue someone.
this is why guns should require background checks and safety courses that's unreasonable fuck i've never even held a loaded gun and i know that crap holy fuck.
Even if you don't know that, like, how dumb are you to TRY that ? Hell, I've made that joke with BBguns, and even then I would ALWAYS fire 3/4 times in the air to make sure the chamber was empty. How moronic do you have to try that with a real gun, let alone without checking by shooting the air first.
Never do that to clear any firearm or firearm simulator like a BB or pellet gun. The round/pellet will come back down with the same velocity it left the barrel with.
It was some pretty cheap bbguns (not actual replicas for hardcore players), but I would usually shoot it at grass or something like that, I'm not entirely stupid, I know that anything that goes up will go down :D (which is why I don't believe in that 'moon landing bs, where did the rocket go man, they think they can fool us)
EDIT : that last sentence is sarcasm.
No, a bullet won't come back down with the same velocity it left the barrel with. Simple physics proves this wrong. Terminal velocity is 122 mph while a gun leaves the barrel at around 1,700 mph. Now a bullet falling at terminal velocity can still injure or kill someone, but it's not the same speed as when it's shot.
Mythbusters proved that probably wrong. Yes, that can happen if it goes straight up and back down and tumbles, sure. With rifling and wind cross currents, it's more likely to return to the ground ballisticlly and be lethal.
Frankly though, it doesn't matter if it is or isn't. It's goddamned irresponsible. If you did it on my range, I'd kick you off of it forever.
Let me reiterate number one for you:
Even if you know it's not loaded; as in you just cleared it, the magazine is out, the slide or bolt is locked back and you are actually looking at an empty chamber... YOU STILL TREAT IT LIKE IT'S LOADED.
UNDERSTAND!?
I've realized my problem isn't with guns, cause they can be used as a very efficient form of self protection if handled correctly, but is with gun culture, like, people basically treat guns as toys these days rather than respecting the fact that they have to power to take a life/multiple lives with the pull of a trigger
