I mean great for the mom but I don't understand everyone calling every accomplishment by a black person " black excellence ". It seems very ... Condescending ? Like when people praise a kid for everything they do but like ... To adults for regular things.
I mean you brought race into it...theres nothing more petty than someone being offended by "black excellence"... even when racists go around saying that "black people are ghetto and can't he into school"
its not that they're offended, it's more so that if you were to say the exact things these type of people say, but replacing black with white, you'd be deemed a racist, but when they do it, it's being prideful of their heritage or skin colour in a good way
well the problem is that its always reduced to race...when someone says black excellence or latino, whatever, indicates that the person fought for getting an education...its about low socio-economic status which is, in majority, either black or latino...it's representation (it matters)...there's no reason for offence or pettiness when you cant even feel happy for the person but instead bring race into it as if it's the only thing that matters
we're not narrowing it down to race, personally i just find it stupid for /them/ being race into it. if they wanted us to just be happy for them, and if they wanted it to not pertain to race, why did they put "Black excellence"? There isn't that much of a difference anymore in how different races are treated in schools. Kids fail because they don't try or they think life will be handed to them so they fuck around in class. Don't blame your race on everything that holds you back in life, sometimes its just you thats the problem.
I honestly don't understand why it bothers people so much...You say you don't want to bring race into it, yet you're bothered by it...as I said, achievements come first...if the person feels like they're representing a community which succeeded against adversity of not being quite as "privileged" as some others (there's obviously successful black people too), so be it. There's a lot of heroes in history that are represented and they are black (or any other race) and people take pride in that...I'm not bothered to be honest, she knows she doesn't represent the whole community, however, that doesn't mean she shouldn't be of a certain race and be proud of her achievements within the black community... community meaning a certain group (people call this the ghetto)... "white people" might not do it because they recognize it as a standard achievement, other people don't have it as easy...downvote all you want
we are aware not every black person is "ghetto". we know black people can be successful. people are mad because there's the double standard. Black people can post "black excellence", "black pride", etc, but if a white person does the same, they're racists. like damn, it's not that hard to understand.
It all depends on context...white people represent the majority and being a minority that's proud (not a victim) of accomplishing something isn't bad...you don't say white pride because of the history associated with the statement, people associate it with the KKK....you cant feel proud of something youve already done...its the same as me being in Germany and pointing with the tip of my fingers forwards the horizon...some Germans might consider it the Nazi salutte even though I was pointing..if white people had a different history then it would be considered "valid"..its almost like you want to suffer on behalf of the "White people" to earn your pride but it isn't about race primarily..
Guest, my original point was not that I'm offended by it, but rather that I'm seeing black people praised for normal things just because of their skin color. I've seen posts of just good hairstyles and then " ~black excellence ~" or even just people graduating highschool and going to college on time. People are making it seem that just because you're black you're doing a HUGE accomplishment for doing something most of the country does, or even erasing all of the hard work they have put into certain accomplishments and saying shit like " black magic " and not commenting on the actual struggle for certain achievements. It's like saying someone is " naturally talented " at something they've spent years and years practicing and studying.

All race aside, can we appreciate how awesome this is? Graduating at the same time as your mom is kind of amazing :)
Funny puppy- you're that friend that every group needs to keep people from tearing itself apart. If this one comment sums up your character, the world needs more people like you. Keep being awesome.
Race is mentioned because Black people are never given credit for anything positive...sure we graduate college and do other great things all the time, however the media portrays us all as lazy, dumb, crimals, etc... there's no there wrong with expressing Black excellence.
I've kept quiet on this one but I just can't anymore. Let me break a few things down. Ethnicity is a shared culture and language, race is a group of like characteristics and has no scientific basis. "Black" in America as a racial term is often applied to people of Latin, Jamaican, Haitian, African, etc. roots; and thanks to history often separated from that culture or unaware. Thus "Black" in America is a cultural ethnicity of its own, made in America of a melting pot of times and places. Like polish culture, Irish, German, etc. who hold parades and are proud of their achievements, black Americans are as free as anyone to take pride in a unique culture and destroy social perceptions. When people "defending" the issue say things like "low socio economic status which is primarily black or Latino" you can see the deep rooted problem. You know who gets to decide if it's condescending? Black people. Otherwise your opinion really doesn't count for much on the subject. People invent race.
White excellence!
Huh. Sounds wrong, doesn't it?
