Most "alarmist" reporting on it actually grossly underestimate the magnitude... and it's like 20,000 years overdue to erupt.
Evidence of its last eruption show up in core samples I think as far away as Nova Scotia.
Mount Rainier is more on my mind considering that I see it every day towering above the surrounding mountains in the Cascade Range. When it goes the local impact will be immense. When Yellowstone goes the global impact will be unimaginable.
