Thank you! I feel so bad bc non-Christian's get the wrong idea from all these bible-thumping haters; when practiced correctly, Christianity is not a hateful religion. However there are many people who abuse what the Bible says and I hope that none of you have mistaken true Christians to be as ignorant as some are
The problem is not Christians like you. The people like you are decent. You don't speak out. But that's even worse. You being quiet allows the ones who have a louder voice to yell hatred and I respect those guys more than you. They are at least following what their religion does partially. The Bible is a rape/slavery/genocide supporting book of hatred and evil.
If you don't believe me just read the Bible instead of listening to what other people say. Pay careful attention to the actions of Yahweh in Genesis and Deuteronomy.
Well you may have read the Bible, but you obviously haven't read it all the way through. If you had, you would know that in fact, many of the rules set in the Old Testament were revised in the New Testament. Remember, when you're trying to prove someone wrong, it's important to actually know the whole story. The singular actions taken out of Genesis and Deuteronomy seem bad, but if you had actually read the whole thing and gotten the context you'd realize that there is always a reason behind what God does.
I don't understand this though, and do correct me if I have misunderstood, but the new testament is kind of like christianity saying "oh no all those things in the old testament actually were kinda messed up" but weren't all those atrocities committed by your god, who is always morally right, so shouldn't those atrocities be applauded by all christians?
I see where you're coming from, but in fact all of the atrocities committed by God were for the punishment of the people who had committed atrocities. In every single story in the Bible, a person messes up and is then punished by God in varying ways that he sees fit. Christians are not to judge the actions of God, but to instead look at what the reason behind his actions were (a messed up person) and try not to be like them. We do not applaud the atrocities committed by God, but we respect the fact that he has the power to commit them and do our best to follow his word so he will not punish us.
I realize that my above reply sounds awfully gloomy and fearful, but in reality following God's rules doesn't take much effort. They are very simple and straightforward. Also, God does not "enjoy" punishing us, he is a teacher. He loves every human being and wants them to be happy, and all we have to do is love each other.

Here's the thing though: "sharing the gospel" with non christians kind of is shoving your religion down peoples' throats
Most of us do our best not to shove it at you, but usually if you ask we'll inform you. Christians don't want to insult anyone else, it's just that most of us have found peace in our religion and we want others to feel the same happiness.

"Preach the gospel at all times, using words when necessary"
- St. Francis
Sometimes the best way to share anything that brings you joy is just by living what you believe until people ask what it is that makes you so different.
"sharing the Gospel" to me is sharing the idea of love and forgiveness to those who are feeling down. "shoving religion down their throats" is saying people will go to Hell if they don't practice those beliefs
I've made my peace with the universe and my parents did make me but they've also accepted that I don't want to go anymore, even if they're not thrilled about it.
Yes, this is what every Christian is to do - to exemplify Jesus. :) It's easy to get frustrated with the world and lash out (I'm quite guilty as many know) in anger. I was once a bible-thumping hater, but Jesus wasn't. :) With every confrontation of sin (yes, even with the money-changers in the temple) that Jesus had, He always was meek, patient, kind, and compassionate. We ought to be the same.
You sir are nowhere near meek, nor patient, nor kind. You tell people that they deserve death, (well, you don't say it directly, you let your little book do that for you) or worse-eternal torture, for their sexual orientation. You claim that you used to be a bible-thumping hater, and honestly, you still are.
Indeed. And then he never seems to understand why he gets negative reactions. He insults gay people, and anyone who doesn't follow his religion, then threatens them with his holy book. Disgraceful.

Fucking hypocrite man
Spewing homophobic shit, then saying how you should love everyone
So here's a fun fact: Christians generally accept that the only infallible human in the history of existence is Jesus. Strangely enough. Jesus is also almost the only major Bible figure not to say jack or shit about homosexuality, and you KNOW, considering that dude hung out with "tax collectors and sinners" that there was a gay guy or two around if he felt it was important to talk about.
Related fun fact: One of Jesus' primary directives: Love one another as I have loved you.
I am a Southern Baptist and thanks to a group who ruined that name I am ashamed to say I am southern baptist.
I am the kind of baptist that believes god said love one another even if they are different even if they are gay or is a lady of the night. God said we should not judge. So I don't. I love the bible but I don't spat it out every second I get because I know it is full of flaws.
I don't call people sinners or spit at them. I don't widh people would just die already no matter how much they hurt me. I pray they become better people. Or lol atleast that God gives them right justice.

My gran always had a saying....
Religion is like a pen!s. I'm glad you have one, but don't shove it down my throat and keep it away from my children.
Tell people about Christianity is the instruction, they then can choose. That's it, not to further judge their choice, or further bug them to comply, that's not your place.
""Hate the sin and not the sinner" is a precept which, though easy enough to understand, is rarely practiced, and that is why the poison of hatred spreads in the world" - Mahatma Gandhi

If you intend on thinking people are always going to act as expected you tend to be cynical and think the world is a terrible place. I know too many people who give 0 fucks.

Hey look it's a Christian online that doesn't make the rest of us look bad, how about that
I'm sorry that I like to point out all the blatant flaws that destroy your entire system of beliefs which may allow you to turn into a productive member of society. Therapists are just trolls as well, huh?
Why is it your concern what one believes in. If a person came up to me going on how they believe the only true god is a duck they met in a park. I would ask them about their believe not call them a fucking moron and say I know all the reasons why that isn't possible.
Sometimes what a persons religious preference is what they found gets them through this tough life.
For me it is believing that someone big does have a goal for all of us to achieve. It maybe nice and involves something like becoming rich and in doing so because I gave to a charity they were able to save the life of a child who cures aids or just by making a business my employer's child became an important person.
Or I could be something not nice like be here to die of cancer and in doing so they became closer to finding a cure.
Look what I am saying is it is your right to say why you don't follow one religion or any for that matter but it isn't right for you to make someone feel little for believing in their believes.
No one said science is or isn't true.
Even though I believe in a higher power I believe in science as well. Yes there is some who go as far as saying dinosaurs where placed in the earth by the devil to trick us. And yes I personally think that is insane but Like I said it is not my place or yours to belittle them for their beliefs. What you say or do can never really make a person stop believing in thier beliefs no more than can them believing in something change facts. It is up to them to decide whether to follow what they choose or to choose another belief, not you.
And yes science is a belief because you belief the facts to be true you belief what people discovered to be how it is. Even though time and time again has facts changed and been disproven. We believed science proved we had 9 planets turned out we only have 8. We believed the world was flat but science changed that as well. Evryday science is found to be flawed yet you still believe in it.

Science isn't found to be flawed, science isn't a religion that you believe in, it is a collection of facts and knowledge that gets updated and has old theories removed when they are found to be false based on evidence.
Religion on the other hand is a collection of stories and laws that may or may not have truth in them, we don't know. All I know is that most of these stories have little to no satisfactory evidence to be considered provable, yet they are still believed in. If you want to believe the stories, that's totally fine by me. All I'm saying is that these stories don't get changed drastically or removed based on new evidence
Look till we reach the end will we not really know what there is or isn't. It could be God, it could be reincarnation, it could be nothing, hell it could just be the duck the guy met in the park. But till than it is our only duty to live this life we have by treating others with respect and kindness the same way you wish to be treated. Because you only have this one life for right now. Do you really want to waste it makeing others feel bad for believing in something different than you? Or do you want to explore what you believe in and find ways to help others experience what life has to offer? You don't have to believe in a higher power to not be an ass to everyone you meet but you can try to live your life not judging who thinks different of yourself.
a person can be religious and believe in science at the same time. Science is proven fact but religion has been known to help a lot more people than it hurts

How am I making you feel bad? I literally said that I completely support your right to believe what you want, I simply stated my reason for not joining you in that belief. I don't want to believe anything, I want to know or not know. There are many things that are still unknown to the human race. To me, belief/religion is people claiming to have answers when in reality they only have guesses. Though I admit science also can only guess in those unknown areas for the moment
Science by definition is true. If it's not true then it's not science. Similar to triangles. If it doesn't have three sides then it isn't a triangle.

But then they're passing off warped guesses as science. It used to be science that dinosaurs were scaly bois, but now scientists think they all had feathers.

That's because new evidence appeared, and like I said, when new evidence appears, theories and hypotheses are discarded in favour of more accurate ones. No, most of what we know likely isn't absolute truth, but it's the closest approximation we can make with any degree of certainty

Also I think not all dinosaurs had feathers, but that's besides the point
@yimmye I was not saying you personally made people feel bad what I was saying is to everyone. I was saying what is the point of going around with a needle tring to pop holes in people's belief when what you really should be doing is just explore your own belief and let others be.
I am not here explaining why I think people who don't believe in Jesus will go to hell because in my belief if you don't accept him as the true messiah you go to hell and I am not here saying to people who believe in worshiping what my religion to be false idols will be damned either. Want to know why? Because it is none of my business. I will say what I believe in and if asked questions I will answer them best of my knowledge but I refuse to say things that will make them have doubt of their own belief.
@memelessdreams That is a combination of the Slippery Slope Fallacy and the Poisoning the Well fallacy which means that it is not just bullshit - it's double bullshit.
If you don't believe me just read the Bible instead of listening to what other people say. Pay careful attention to the actions of Yahweh in Genesis and Deuteronomy.
