I think it makes the officer sound like he died valiantly in battle. "Slain" sounds like such a Shakespearean word, like knights in shining armor and stuff.

To me it sounds like he was beaten to death with the use of like 10+ weapons. It just sounds so much like a violent video game death that it doesn't seem fit for an officer's death

Yeah I think it's used in GTA or another game where if you have a particularly gruesome death it'll say "player was slain"
