When I broke up with my high school girlfriend I was inconsolable, mopey, angy, all the normal teenager stuff. I laid in my bed all day and only really left to get food and use the bathroom. My Ridgeback Lady would bring me things like toys and random shirts and just nudge them over to me. After about a week she was sick of my shit and finally just put her snout under my back and tried to roll me off the bed. It took a few hours, but when I was finally on the floor she jumped on me and licked my face until I was ready to play. She was a great dog.
My younger brother when he was a toddler fell backwards down the stairs. My dog ran to his rescue and used himself to cushion the fall. They were both okay. Bless that dog in heaven.
My dogs like to bring me things when I'm ill and function as a heating pad. The time I had an throat-/lunginfection my sisters dog brought me a frozen bird. The second time I had a throatinfection my dog brought me (worn) underwear, tampons and her food. And the time I had appendicitis she didn't want to leave me and had to lay on my belly on the spot where my appendix was. And the days I was in the hospital afterwards she was so concerned that she stopped eating until she had seen me. Even when I got home from the hospital she followed me around for days.
My horse has once smashed herself into a guy harassing me who grabbed my arm and wanted to drag me along. She also kicked several people who cirkeled us in the woods and took us away the moment she saw the chance.
Mine is a cat story...My cat LOVES me. She's never hissed at or scratched or bitten me. When I was pregnant I fell into a deep depression. My cat who used to sleep on my tummy started sleeping on my legs and would cuddle and lick my pregnant belly. It comforted me. When I brought my son home from the hospital my cat was terrified of him "what the hell did you bring home?!" After a few hours she warmed up to him and that night she slept in his crib at his feet. She seemed to have this maternal connection to him. She slept with him every night, sat by him during his tummy time, watched him while we bathed him, if he cried she came running...she was always there. One night my son was very upset about bath time and was screaming. The door was closed so cat started meowing hysterically, scratching under the door and actually ripped chuncks off wood from the bottom and scratched up the floor. She thought I was hurting him. When I opened the door she attacked my feet and legs.
I lightly kicked her away, put my baby on the bed and turned to get some clothes. When I turned back she was standing over my son, all puffed up and started hissing at me. When I reached for him she lunged at me and scratched the crap out of my arms. I tried shooing her away but she felt the need to protect him. I was pissed about being scratched up but I love the fact that my cat loves my son so much that she'll attack me if it means protecting him.
