Just in case they need to check your heart during a procedure if you start showing signs of complications or adverse reactions to the anesthetics or other medicines/solutions they give you.
Not that hard to understand really.
They may be dentists as a specialty, but they are still physicians. They need to know how what they are doing in your mouth might affect the rest of your body.

Yeah but its not typical for a dentist to wear a stethoscope, so showing a typical dentist would not involve that
