That's been a thing in Canada for ages.

in france we roll the dice and pray. And we have a bunch of days that fall 7 days appart (so same day of the week) (around may), so when one falls on saturday/sunday you get fucked hard.
Then again we get double or nothing when it falls on tuesday / thurday because we then go for 4day weekends (adults usually take a day off, and a lot of schools just give it to the students).

Same thing in South Africa, but I think it's only if it falls on a Sunday.
If it's a Saturday, well then you just suck it up cupcake.
Schools will also give a Friday/Monday off if the public holiday falls on a Thursday/Tuesday.
