I used to have a snake (she was called Marmite - because you either love her or you hate her) and I used to love it when she drank from her water bowl. I could always see her throat contracting ever so slightly but she barely broke the tension on the surface of the water.
Not like my cat who gets water all over the kitchen floor when he drinks.
Marmite was a ball (Royal) python too! Lovely snakes, aren't they? I had to give her up because she started getting angsty with me. I was too young to look after her properly and we couldn't provide the facilities for her to breed either so we sold her to a nice man. I only wish I'd bought her more recently so I could have appreciated her properly.
they really are. Patches was pretty docile. I had to give her up because when I went to stay with my dad over the summer my mom would do stupid crap like use mulch from outside as her substrate and shit instead of using something proper. She got a few infections from it, had to give her a ton of shots. This happened twice and after the second time I sold her back to the place I bought her from, My mom's stupidity was causing too much suffering and I couldn't do anything about it because I was 600 miles away. It also happened with two leopard geckos, a malaysian golden gecko, countless fish, a crab, a fire-bellied salamander, two anoles, a jackson's chameoleon and a water basilisk. I swear the only goddamn animal she can take care of longer than a month is a cat ... and she managed to fuck that up twice as well. I should have learned the lesson when I was like 10, and I feel bad about all the animals that were neglected because of it.
I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm glad that you intervened instead of just leaving them there, you weren't to know what she was doing int he beginning and it's hard to stand up to your family. We always used to use bark chippings and Marmite loved those; she liked burying herself under them then sticking her head out again. I'm impressed by the variation in species that you've owned! I've always wanted a bearded dragon but I know my cat would not like it. He's an old cat now and wouldn't get along well with any new creatures.
