While my Dad was in the Navy one of his fellow Navy officers got into some trouble for talking back to a higher ranking officer. So to remind him of his place he made the guy lay on his back on the ground and wiggle his arms and legs in the air while shouting I AM A BUG! He was to do this for a few hours till the higher officer felt the guy had done it enough. The whole time my Dad and the other men where to stand by and watch. Around 30 minutes in my Dad lol raised his hand and the higher officer said what do you want to join him? My Dad said Sir no sir I just want to put him out of MY misery.
So the higher office held in a laugh and said come stomp out the pest than. So my Dad walked over whispered sorry and pretended to stomp the guy as if he was a bug to which the guy played dead after being squished. lol
Pretty much, but it's old school thinking. Good leadership these days would do well to recognise that their subordinates are intelligent and may very well be better educated than they are.
Not that education is equivalent to intelligence, but it does bring a set of experiences that may be drawn upon. Good leadership should listen to subordinates when they have reasonable input. They don't have to act on it, but their ideas may contribute to forming a later decision.
Well in the more elite portions like special forces, rangers, airborn etc. they mentally break you down then build you back up. They do this weird shit just to mess with you. My cousin went through special forces and he said half the punishments they got were batshit crazy.
