It also cannot tarnish, so it lasts a hell of a lot longer. It's also used in some arthritis and cancer treatments. Also, it's probably the most important element used when constructing a satellite since it's so reliable (wouldn't be feasible to provide maintenance for every sat in orbit, or every rover we send out). It's even used as a lubricant. It's used in glass to reflect radiation, keeping buildings cooler easier.
It's a VERY useful metal.
