Uh, supply drops with parachutes happened. Crates didn't break. It's like the kid that throws his little brother of the roof with an umbrella before he decides if he wants to jump or not.

Actually the guy who first attempted to make a parachute was inspired by Da vinci's design , and died horribly , in front of the press.
