People sometimes are so passionate about thing they know nothing about. They miss the entire point or completely miss the other view.

Am I the only girl here who used to drive doodle bugs around in her Barbie car?

Actually I did the same thing. My mother was not amused when I would bring them inside

People still don't get that being 'gender neutral' doesn't mean forcing your child to like the other genders stereotyped stuff. Boys and girls are also just mentally different, biologically girls like dolls because they're more nurturing and boys like physical learning. It doesn't really matter if you oppose that stereotype but don't force it on your child.

Exactly. More in depth for the doll thing, girls at a young age even, have a paternal instinct to take care of dolls, to take care of something. So depriving your child from being able to do that and to force them away from that life style is basically forcing them to go against everything that evolution has taught us to do.

Maternal* but you're absolutely right, its fine not to force it, but if it's what your child wants give it too her...

Exactly, these early stages are the most critical in a child's life so the last thing you want to do is mess with their brain and confuse them or make them believe their choice of toy is somehow 'wrong'

You're basically doing exactly what you're fighting against. Enforcing gender (or in this case reverse gender) stereotypes

it isnt about avoiding gender roles. its about letting your child choose what they want, provided it isnt dangerous.

Give them both, let them pick. I chose both. Maybe I drew flowers on the car, but I won the race.

Hmm, it is almost as if discouraging your children from doing certain things for no reason actually causes them to gravitate towards said things. How strange!

Give all your kids trucks, dolls, etc. and just let them play with what they want! I remember playing with Tonka trucks and barbies when I was younger and I'm really happy I had both. If only I had Nerf guns when I was younger - then I would have had the ultimate time. I didn't play with my first Nerf gun until high school - HIGH SCHOOL!

It feels less like they are giving their children the option of both spectrums, but just flipping which spectrum they want their kids to choose from.
