He only discovered how to make light easily used and distributed. Just having the method to use light means nothing unless someone else comes along and actually distributes it just like having the "cure" to cancer means nothing if you don't tell anyone.

I'd patent that shit. Some people get to live and I get a life of ease. I would have no competition meaning I could make the price for the "cure" whatever I wish for at least a few years until I start to lower the price due to competition or the amount of people with cancer starts to decrease.

Yes, because capitalism is such an evil thing. It's not like our entire modern way of life came to existence because of it. Also not based off their wallets. Gofundme, bank accounts, and many other things as well.
