What so you expect people from Wisconsin to do for a tragedy that happens in Europe? While I find the excessive " thoughts and prayers " posts annoying there's not much people can do besides that
The second amendment states a "well-regulated militia". Random citizens having guns was never the intent, and even then it says right there it should be regulated. I don't get how anyone can reasonably justify this no-holds barred free for all the NRA has been waging against gun control. It's fucking ridiculous.

"a military force that is raised from the civil population to supplement a regular army in an emergency."
If you go by this definition of militia (the first definition in Google's dictionary), it's actually pretty easy to see how people can justify everyone having a gun. The purpose of the militia is to be prepared for when the army isn't enough.
The second definition relates to guerrillas and terrorist regimes.
The third is "all able-bodied civilians eligible by law for military service".
The third definition there includes most people in the militia. Not the mentally handicapped or disturbed, not the underage, and not the ill or elderly—because they would not be eligible for military service.
Like it or not, agree or not, it's pretty easy to see how people justify nearly everyone and anyone having access to a gun.

And funkmaster, before you just downvote me for saying I disagree with you—I am in favor of tightening up gun regulations. A gun license should work like a driver's license. You have to be a certain age, you have to take a state/federally approved course, pay your fees, get their license, maintain gun insurance, etc.
But a person can own as many cars as they want, and almost any make or model of car, as long as they follow the rules for owning and operating motor vehicles. The same should go for guns.
I point out how easy it is to understand gun advocates, because of how crucial it is to understand where the people you disagree with are coming from.
Problem with requiring a license or registration is that if our government does go rogue, or if a hostile nation does invade and they find that list, we're all fucked.

You make a lot of sense. Maybe some of the insurance revenue could go to emergency services since they take a beating during the aftermath of gun violence.
Just because someone posts "Thoughts and prayers" on Facebook or Twitter doesn't mean they didn't do something else, like donate money, food, clothing, time. "Thoughts and prayers" is simply letting people know they aren't alone, not forgotten.
