There was no way he was supposed to win the last election. But he did. If you wish that an entire country should burn based on the sole fact that you didn't get your way, then please go see a psychiatrist.

The alternative was a situation where Russia would've stopped at nothing to have half of Japan. Dropping the nuclear bomb prevented at least 5 more years of war, and told everyone to back off from WW2 and let it end. As terrible as the means were, they prevented worse outcomes.

Also in my non-expert opinion the combined effect of all the normal bombs was ultimately more detrimental to Japan.
