a PETA member. I kid. Just someone who likes animals. I've had multiple lizards (a few gecko species, anoles, a chameleon and a water basilisk), a snake, a few fiddler crabs, an eel, fish, a salamander, a dog, multiple cats, a frog and a turtle.
I had an fish tank, a good 60 gallons and was planning on getting a big 300+ gallon custom terrarium so he could grow big AF and roam lol. I got him from pet-smart (never making that mistake again) and he was in poor health so after awhile I realized I couldn't give him the care he needed so I took him to the reptile store I got my ball python from and asked them if they could take care of him because I wasn't able too. They obliged and promised me they wouldn't sell him until he was in good health and they vetted whoever was looking to buy him. I miss him, he was awesome AF.... His name was Montezuma lol..
Sweet name lol
That's sad though I've done that too, pet stores keep their animals in pretty shitty conditions it's really sad. I've only ever had one lizard, Freddy my bearded dragon but they're awesome, lizards are one of the best pets. They're so chill.
Did you have all those pets at once? or just one at a time over the years?
Yeah, they are really shitty, especially with reptiles. I've always wanted a beard dragon lol. Not all at once, over the years. The anoles got out while I was cleaning their terrarium when I was a kid, but they bred in my backyard, and there are like 4-5+ anoles chilling in my yard every summer now lol... One of my cats, who I no longer have, used to find a way into the fish tank no matter what I did, so eventually all the fish got eaten besides my plecostomus. The fidder crabs just eventually died over time, the eel buried himself in the rocks at the bottom and I never saw him again, I have no clue what happened. The salamander had his little hibernation area collapse on him during an earthquake, but I kind of mummified him and still have him in a little coffin box thing I made for him. Two other cats died from old age, I had to give my ball python back to the same pet store I gave Montezuma too because my mom put in the wrong substrate while I was visiting my dad over the summer and
he got real sick... we took him to the vet, but he wasn't getting better with the medication we had to give him. The most lizards I had at once was a Malaysian Golden Gecko and Two Leopard Geckos (Shaq and Kobe). They all lived for about 10-12 years, which is pretty decent for most geckos. The chameleon just absolutely refused to eat (I'm convinced he was on the brink of death when I bought him; my first Pet Smart mistake that I didn't learn from) and died like 3 days after I got him... which was lame since I dropped like $400 on this awesome arboreal cage thing I pimped out for him.
Oh yeah, the dogs were at my dad's and they lived pretty good lives, except my scottish terrier, who my step brother took to his dad's and let it so fat one day it couldn't get out of in front of a car and got ran over :/ The frog and turtle I both found in the wild while visiting my dad, and I just kept them over the summer and released them back where I found them when I had to go back to my mom's house.
Wow that's a bucket load of pets ahah and I highly recommend getting a bearded dragon they're awesome and they just sit with you and sleep.
Sucks about your pets who pass unexpectedly but I bet they had a happy life while it lasted. I currently have 4 dogs and 2 cats (soon to be 3) but I have had countless animals in the past.
Sometimes things just happen, it's horrible loved pets get caught up in the mess but I doubt it was your fault. If you love them, it's kind of hard not to take care of your pets
Ooo a water basilisk, that's awesome where did you keep it?
