This is pretty unrelated but I grew up in bad neighborhoods and still live in one today and I'm a teenage girl. My dad taught me a great piece of advice that he learned from a childhood best friend; if you have a feeling or just a hunch that you are being followed, and there are no police stations/fire departments/crowded centers around, and especially if you are alone, just wait a but and keep walking but listen carefully to them behind you. The main point here is the element of surprise; you need to spin around as fast as possible and just scream as loud as you fucking can while making the most horrifying/deranged face you can and then hysterically laughing. Usually scares the shit out of them and you have time to make a quick escape. Or get murdered. I don't know. Sounded like good advice to me though :)
