Too expensive to change all the road signs in the country. Therefore, all vehicles generally stick with those units. I guess it just remains as the unit for distance as well because of it.

m and mm are the correct units... yet, temperature in Celsius might be confusing, rather use centigrade ;-)

What? Celsius and Centigrade are the same thing. Centigrade is just the old name.
