Very true, but they do everything in their power to get you to start when you are 18. Also they manufacture them to give a really strong buzz the first couple of months after you start. By then you're hooked. It's been the hardest thing I've ever tried to quit.
I honestly don't find tobacco all that addictive. I know it is. But I've been able to go from smoking half a pack a day to smoking nothing with no side effects really.

@famousone their argument is that they make them too “smokeable” meaning they use too many additives to hide the fact that it’s poison to your body, like they use something that makes you cough less and stuff like that. While I disagree with it, because like you say it’s still people’s own choice in the end, I can kind of sort of see where they’re coming from
i still dont understand why people smoke cigarettes. just make weed legal and smoke that, it's much better for your health considering the chemicals in cigs
@miniwheats a good point, but the production of weed is much more difficult and quality control is harder. The price of weed can be cheap one day and way overpriced the next, at least cigarette price is more stable and only rises when government calls out the order
perhaps but cigarettes still are a leading cause in lung cancer, second hand smoke, and directly kill people by straining their immune system. they are also highly addictive and can cause relapses and depression if you don't regularly subject your body tot the tar in those death sticks. if you smoke cigs, your decision making skills are already pretty poor. At least weed has it's health benefits, Cigs have nothing going for them that help your health
Not everybody that smokes dies from it. It's a risk factor, not a death sentence.

I don't know how things are outside of America, but here it tells you on every fucking box that this shit is addictive.
The fuck did they expect? Let people have their cigarettes.

Our packs do have many warnings and often times also nasty pictures, but the argument they make (or at least how I understand it) is that the manufacturers make the cigarettes seem less harmful to you body (kind of tricking people’s monkey brain by saying “hey look this doesn’t hurt so much, it can’t be that bad”), by using chemicals that stop you from coughing so much for example. They say that they would agree to allow cigarettes that don’t have any such additives, but of course those would be unsmokeable and so the manufacturers would go bankrupt
Personally I think it’s all a bit silly because they do state very clearly on every package “you are going to die a slow and painful death”

It’s not really “Dutch healthcare”, it’s an ex-smoker lawyer and a few hospitals
