It depends on the situation. If you're pissing, whining, moaning, and sniveling about something very minor or something that everyone has to deal with, then your experience is invalid. If you simply make a statement about how something hurt or how something sucks and you get "That's nothing. I..." in response, then, yeah, the whole one-upmanship thing gets annoying.

It doesn't become invalid, does a cut disappear just because someone else has their leg amputed? Even if its something everyone has to deal with it doesn't mean its invalid either, millions deal with depression but that doesn't mean its invalid just because everyones going though it. Its ridiculous to overreact to your problems, yes, but just because its not a major problem or everyone else also has that problem doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Everyone goes through shit. Everyone has a different tolerance for different things. I might not be bothered by a day or two without sleep but some people can't function without 8 plus hours. We are all different. I do get a bit irritated if someone does stupid shit like comparing a broken leg to a stubbed toe. Haha. I mean I wouldn't tell someone that was genuinely starving how bad it is having to wait an extra hour or two for dinner.

What does it mean to have an "invalid experience"?
