This is covered a bit in the movie. Nakia was on a covert mission to rescue a group of female slaves being trafficked. We saw how easily the slave traders were overtaken using brute force of Wakandan technology- but she was traveling as a slave. We can guess she may have been trying to find the "top bad guys." In general it's shown wakandans do intervene in outisude affairs but they generally do it more surgically to minimize their chances of exposure. So through things like assasination and person to person intervention. Mass murder of slave traders would be against their over all policy and possibly expose them. After all the slave traders mysteriously died the colonizers might send troops and blame local populations for the murders. Unless they planned to essentially overthrow those governments or murder everyone in parliament and later US government, they didn't have much choice without being drawn into war other than small scale actions to help if anything.
Tastefully (we saw how well it went in Transformers) marvel didn't try to wash over this fact and include a throw away about wakandan tech making the Underground Railroad possible or something. The main antagonist was primarily motivated by the fact Wakanda has allowed black suffering through the ages, and his goal was to do exactly that- overthrow oppressive governments and use superior wakandan technology to help those is real and figurative bondage- in so doing becoming the very thing he was against, as stated in the movie.
On a side note, the illusion that Wakanda gives off as a poor but peaceful country of shepherds, that it doesn't ask for foreign aid, the people are not going hungry, the country has no history of the tribal warfare/civil war , the king and his friends are not robbing the country blind. Would make this place better then probably nine out of ten African countries
Whose to say they didn't? The main sellers of Africans was Africans. Who were then bought by foreigners, who transported them elsewhere to sell to the final owners. They totally could have been active but not heard of because they intercepted them before they were sold to foreigners.
And who tf sold the Africans when they had no one left to do the selling???
It started with blacks but after years of war and sell outs no one was left except the victors—who still lost when they were captured themselves.
There was always more people to sell. Entire tribes were wiped out because once they realized how much they could get for selling people the stronger groups of Africans would form raiding parties specifically to capture people for the slave trade. They would capture slaves from several hundred miles away and force march them towards the coast to sell them to the foreigners. Entire coastal cities sprung up whose economy was based solely on the slave trade. They would start wars with the sole purpose of capturing more slaves. In fact slavery was practiced for centuries prior to the Atlantic slave trade even began. One of the main differences is slaves sold east were generally sterilized either before or just after they were sold. Some of the biggest buyers were other African states, European, and Muslim countries. A brief but slightly informative page is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_Africa and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_slave_trade
Oh lord. Not this again. Ok- firstly we know historically that slavery was not the same in Africa as it was overseas. You can dispute that- there's no shortage of conflicting facts in history. Fine. No one can dispute this though: if your dad punches your mom that doesn't make it ok for you to punch your mom does it? Someone else doing wrong doesn't make it right, and the fact some Africans sold other Africans doesn't make the ones who got sold guilty, and it doesn't make all "blacks" guilty simply because most people can't tell them apart by region and don't know if they have ancestors who were bought or sold. Whatever culpability Africans may have in slavery doesn't diminish the culpability of white slavers or the legacy of slavery in countries built on African or other slaves.
It's funny because my first comment was how Wakanda a fictitious country could have in fact been actively working against the slave trade in Africa but because they were more inland their results were not recorded or were kept silent.
The Atlantic slave trade was a whole lot less than the number of slaves sold to middle eastern countries. The middle eastern slaves were castrated which is partly why they don't have the racial tension that was passed down through generations. The numbers really don't mean shit, if it was one , that would be too many. Especially , if you were the one.
