I could see why you'd say that- but there's two things to consider. The first is that you should draw wisdom from multiple sources, including yourself, but that doesn't mean you should only draw one thing from each. It just means some change once in a while and experiencing different perspectives is good. The second is that iroh himself would likely say not to base your whole life off of his words. He's giving you ideas, but theybare his ideas. It's up to you if you listen or not, and how. Change is the natural state of things. Nothing lasts forever, so it makes sense to have many sources of anything as your current source may not be around later- but at the same time just because things change doesn't mean you can't enjoy things and use them while they are here.
I didn't realize it was a joke, but I did realize they were referencing the fact it is entirely quoted by iroh, so I replied to that element with why it isn't a contradiction.
Growing up; the things Iroh said in the show stuck with me even til this day. His level of wisdom, is a dream I wish to achieve and use to guide my nieces and nephews.
I hope your dream comes true. I was in my late 20's when that show came out. I had no interest in some Nick toon, especially a "wannabe anime." Years went by and I kept stumbling on people talking about how great it was. I forget what really planted the seed- but it was available through some streaming service I usually use and I had free time and nothing to watch. I instantly regretted any shade I ever threw and not watching it sooner. As an adult I was shocked by how fun and wonderful and positive it was. Iroh is one of if not my favorite characters. He's sweet and sympathetic and really made the viewer care. Plus he's behind some real tear jerkers. If I ever had kids it would be mandatory id show them Avatar and Korra for sure.
Falling so slow~~~
Like fragile tiny shells~~~
Drifting in the foam~~~
Come marching home...
Well, neither did she, but I digress.
