You do realize they are different terms, correct? Medical forms don't need to know your gender, they need to know your sex. In psych research this is a problem we have that messes with data. Also, they shouldn't have an "other" box for sex (in case they have something besides XX or XY) or gender because it does create a response bias. Other is seen as a derogatory term. I'm in the middle of doing research at my university, and this is something we have to account for. They should have had a box that was blank so they could have filled it in - it may take longer to read, but it can give more accurate info, and less of a responding bias.
Form said, “gender”. I get lying to yourself and society, but when ze has cervical cancer and it is undiagnosed because you failed to notify your new doctor that you had lady bits in there ze shouldn’t come crying to me.
I'm saying forms get it wrong all of the time - it's a pervasive issue. We were discussing a meta-analysis in my honours thesis course about forms and in almost all of them from the same journal, when they were asking about gender, they used sex terms. You should be able to say on the form "My sex is ____, and my gender is ___". There is a difference and they need to use the right terms. That is exactly my point your doctor does need to know if you have a prostate or a cervix, so they should be using the right terms on the sheet, so someone who is a female for example, but they identify as a man can tell their doc "yes, I have a cervix, but I identify as a man". It's not that hard to do and would benefit the population.
People who say medical forms shouldn't have your sex on it are around about the same levels of problematic as people who say the doctor shouldn't be allowed to call you fat.
Most of the people I've met who aren't CIS gendered are pretty chill about it. Those that aren't are just loud. Really quite a lot of the people I've seen who are all on about using gender on medical forms are cis SJWs that are offended on someone else's behalf. Seems to be a fairly common theme with stupid ideas.
By the way, does anyone know Jude Karda?
