BEDMAS or PEDMAS -> need to do the multiplication first. 2+2 x 4 -> 2x4 = 8 -> 2+8 = 10.

When I was taught, both work - it's whatever comes first in the equation. If division comes first, do that. If multiplication comes first, do that.

The two answers depend if a multiplication multiplies everything or just the bottom of a fraction

More like 6/2 (2+1), and people are confused if the multiplication is for the entire fraction or just the denominator

It’s called left to right order of operation, it’s not very common but still a standard in some situations.
