BEDMAS or PEDMAS -> need to do the multiplication first. 2+2 x 4 -> 2x4 = 8 -> 2+8 = 10.

When I was taught, both work - it's whatever comes first in the equation. If division comes first, do that. If multiplication comes first, do that.

It’s called left to right order of operation, it’s not very common but still a standard in some situations.
