cameras usually take pictures from left to right so it registered the mirror first and then the kid a split second later. The more you know

Yup. It's called "rolling shutter", but only affect cheap cameras like most phone camera and pocket cameras. Larger cameras have an actual shutter.

Doesn't matter how good the camera is, the CCD registers pixels line-by-line. Good cameras do it faster, but it's still a rolling shutter effect.

No, a real shutter stops the exposure before readout, which makes all the difference.
