But they are changing society, one harmless law at a time. In my country it is now illegal to call a man “mr.” Or to speak critically of Islamic practices. Both of these laws came into effect under the guise of “inclusivity” and “cultural enrichment through diversity”. The western world is heading to a dystopian Marxist nightmare or a return to traditional conservative values.
^ this is true. The reason comunism happens is becausr the masses want it to. The reason they want it to is because they don't understand what's really happening. The reason they dont understand is because they're forming their opinions from emotion amd short term thinking.

It's only happened multiple times on this planet. It's almost predictable.
No doubt! I almost feel sorry for Hogg though, in the sense that he's only 17 and he's going to find himselfe in a pit of confusing depression once his usefulness dries up and the media discards him like used condom.
.
He might be angry and well spoken, but nobody really knows anything about the world when they're 17. He truely thinks he's an important part of something special when in reality he's just a disposable political tool. Thats a lot of world to come crumbling down at such a young age.
That's true. But is it his fault, or the people pumping him full of all this garbage? I gurantee he hasn't come up with all this crap on his own. He's a puppet.
Historically, free speach hasnt been taken away from people by force. The people thought they wanted it that way. Same with guns for that matter.

It's almost predictable :/ If only someone would have had the foresight to write down a list of ....what's the word .... RIGHTS on some kind of foundational document of some kind.
There was a large push in the past to take emotions out of life. Men had to be men, stoic and proud. Public life was supposed to governed by an inescapable rationality that often left the most vulnerable people behind. Now, there's a cultural pushback against that that often swings way too wildly in the opposite direction. Emotions and feelings deserve a place in the public discourse, but not at the expense of everything else. However, when you're part of a population that has historically been marginalized, sometimes that's all you have.
Yeah, this has never ever been the case before. The loud never got attention, ad-hominem attacks never went anywhere. Demonizing was always looked down upon, we always ignored the offended, and we certainly never made anyone famous for doing so. What kind of past does Hershey imagine us having?
Oh I know, this is such a huge problem. The future is ruined, we have no chance. If only we could go back to the good old days when kids weren't being influenced by such horrible crap. Oh well, I guess that's what happens when the president is a terrible role model.
Well it seems like op is talking about the influence from the kids from march for our lives, so I think if people who have been in the news for a month and a half can ruin a generation somehow then someone who's been getting press for two and a half years definitely can.
The entire post uses the present indicative tense showing that these actions are happening in the present and they're on going. So, if we're talking about what kids are currently learning about society and politics I think the president is a large influence, do you disagree?
Agreed. And being offended didn't automatically makes you right but sadly some people act that way, yes. Sometimes overreacting it's a possibility you know....
In a way, this has been the case for a long time. I worked on a project that involved reading a lot of 1800s newspapers and all that stuff is in there. A guy was jailed for sending a card to a business owner insulting him by comparing him to a bedbug. A man was sued for mistaking a woman for a man. Newspapers routinely had little blurb articles that weren't news at all but "yo mamma" level insults against rival papers and political candidates.
The difference between now and then is that mass communication makes it so it no longer has to be personal. Offended people can try to recruit as many people as they can to also be offended so there are clear battle lines of us vs the world, which feels more like a righteous crusade that automatically makes us the good guys. Back then, it was really more me vs you where people could watch the fight and maybe comment or pick sides, but there was no compulsion to make it a war with armies and propaganda.

That was my first thought as well.
He is an immoral opportunist.
