Have you actually reviewed Taylor Swifts Discography? Avril Lavigne has more breakup songs. Just because the breakup songs resonate with broken heart teen girls doesn't mean that's all she produces.
There are several reasons others have stated. Combine those, and then add Taylor Swift’s general attitude, the fact that she’s been caught red handed trying to start problems or manufacture fake drama with other celebs, and then take comments she’s made about how she isn’t “that kind of girl” and then not only behaves in the way a group she specifically was talking down on, but does so publicly and then writes songs about it?
Not to be that person, but think of all the other male artists. What do they sing about? Love. Breakups. Drama. Taylor Swift has been under a microscope since she was 15 years old, she's bound to make mistakes. Also, can we not pretend that we wouldn't date any celebrities if we had the chance?
Taylor is a wonderful lyricist while other artists have super basic and simple lines about their exes. Everyone has resonated with her at some point.
There is also the idea of supply and demand. She knows her fans love to hear the love songs and dramatic breakup songs. She's not going to be like, "Wow, i see thats working for me financially, I'm going to switch it up!" When she did, everyone got mad and called her a drama queen. What the fuck do ya'll want her to sing about, taxes?
How about "Hey I am an artist so maybe I should be creative and not do the same thing over and over, even if they are financially risky". It would be very boring to do the same thing over and over you know, for the artist and the fanbase. Not really talking about T Swift but that line just felt meh.
In fairness that does depend on wether you actually are an artist, or wether you are a performer or business person. Pro music involves branding and business- but plenty of pro musicians have maintained fairly universal acceptance or acclaim as artists. The definition of even the concept of art is subjective and contentious- but even if you consider something art, art can still be simplistic, generic, derivitive, or a lazy attempt to cash in. Art doesn’t have to be cutting edge or high concept- but there is a big difference in art between a painstakingly crafted fresco dedicated to your most loved, and 1 of 100 knitted beer cozies made to sell at the flea market.
Hey, did you just diss Bob Ross?
Settle down. We all know art is derivative. We all know that one guy from Doctor Who with only one ear never sold a painting and I'm pretty sure Taylor Swift doesn't care and will make a million this month anyway.
I would never diss Bob Ross. As I said- art is in the eye of the beholder and isn’t always appreciated in its time. A large part of my job involves creating things, but I don’t consider most of what we create as art. On rare occasion something is made by us so brilliantly and skillfully I would call it art- even if it is utilitarian and technical in nature, and few would understand why I would call it art. Not all art is derivative in nature, even if it is derivative in some aspect or by comparison. If someone enjoys Taylor Swift then to them she may be an artist. Subway calls their employees “sandwich artists” and while I’ve had sandwiches I might call art, I’ve never had one from subway- but someone else may feel different. The “artist” to me is one with artistic intent. You can create art and not be an artist. Lastly making money doesn’t make you an artist- it makes you marketable. It also doesn’t mean you can’t be an artist and make money though.
Some dude that sings about his exes because. Uhm, , because that's what effete guys do, instead of having a beer and making fun of all her friends. And drunk calling later.
Or am I wrong
