In highschool I had an English teacher who tried to get us to see the hidden meaning in children's books. He said that a book called "The Curious Little Kitten's First Christmas" was about pearl harbor.

But he didn't even give us Dr Seuss books it was all just little golden books like the pokey little puppy and scruffy the tug boat which he said was about the slave trade o.O and pokey puppy was about the first settlers coming to America and killing Indians. He tried to say the little red hen was about segregation. He was nuts. He even said the little engine that could was about the struggle people of Mexico go through to become American citizens. I swear to God he had to many screws loose.
I’m defense of all English teachers (I am an English teacher): there is no book that is considered worthwhile literature that does not contain symbolism to at least some extent. I’m not saying that there aren’t books that don’t contain symbolism, but I am saying, you won’t be taught any of these in any literature class.
