this is caused by recharging before the phone drains properly, it causes a false memory in the battery thinking, say 40% you charge, that at 40% it's going to run out.

That's only true for older batteries. Lithium ions batteries don't build a charge memory. With lithium batteries it's actually healthier for the battery to only partially discharge the battery when you use it. The old having to discharge the battery fully and fully recharge it for old NiCad batteries is fairly bad for the newer Li-ion ones.

not always, got a modern lithium ion battery, charged at 40% to full, battery swelled, noticed it before rupture, so not doing that again

That means it had a gas build up which means either he battery is faulty or the charger is. It has nothing to do with charge memory. Something causing overcharging or a bad reaction within the battery could be causes. Lithium is extremely reactive and will effectively actively seek out a reaction which is why lithium ion batteries are so volatile when used incorrectly or have faults in construction/design

yeah, i understand the dynamics of it, noticed it by chance as i have a hefty case. i'm waiting for the Aluminium batteries to become commercially available
