1956... right in the middle of the red scare... right around when we added "In God We Trust" to our currency and "Under God" to the pledge as to ostracize atheism and try and connect it with communism. Somehow we managed just fine for the previous 180 years without all this. Sure this is a cool picture, but it's 100% a propaganda tactic.
