german dude here. say you are proud to be german and your instantly a racist. you can't say that here in germany.. you will get hate and weird looka at you. they will think you're a nazi if you say such stuff.
That's some bullshit. WW2 started because Germans were desperate, hungry, and angry enough for a fringe political group to seize power.
There is a large difference between patriotism and ultranationalism.
You Germans have a lot to be proud of, in the early 20th century you revolutionized modern warfare, in the late half of the century your culture survived being occupied by the Soviet Union and the Western Allies. Hell, you all even managed to build a reputation as no-nonsense, near infallible engineers.
Nevermind everything your peoples achieved in the 19th century and earlier.
Why wouldn't you hold on to that?

Jeez, I was joking.
I understand the difference between Germany back then and now.
What do I have to see with the achievements in the early 20th century? Especially, as it wasn't "us" making these achievements, but single people, living in different political systems and in fact a country that's not existing any longer.
Patriotism is something for people who have nothing else to be proud of.
Then take pride in the nation that does exist, like everything Germany was involved in during the Cold War and beyond.
But I take pride in being Native American, too. They don't exist as a proper nation either, I'm just proud of our history and culture. My ancestors fought hard, and they fought well. Just because they lost and I wasn't there when it happened is no reason to forsake their memories and achievements.
You're getting me wrong, it's not about losing or winning.
Your ancestors may have fought hard, and people in history, who were coincidentally born on the same piece of earth that others randomly have claimed to be a country, have achieved this and that. But pride should base on something you achieved yourself, or at least you should have participated. Being born somewhere by chance shouldn't be a reason for pride. If I would have been born 120km further west, I'd be French. 60km Northwest: Luxemburg. It is absolutely random and as countries only exist as fine lines on maps...
I consider myself to be extraordinarily lucky to have been born an American. As we are a land of immigrants, refugees, and exiles, it is ingrained in our culture to be thankful to and proud of our ancestors and those who came before.
We might not have been here for it (though my family has been in-country since before it was a country), but everything that shaped us and everything we are building off of was established by extraordinary people. Innovators, pioneers, working men and woman, all helped build us up. Is it not worth being proud of them for building the lives we enjoy today? To take pride in what our own grandparents and great grandparents achieved?
Think about this, most of what I said can apply to any single nation.
Fake. I've literally never heard any fellow german say that they're proud to be german. We just don't do that. And you'll only find our flags waving during the world cup.

german dude here. the meme is correct. if you say this in germany, everyone will think you're a nazi.
also german. wrong. a lot of AFDlers and nazis say it and want others to say it as well to "lose the stigma" of saying it.
basically, if you hear someone say they're proud to be german, they're 99% asshole
Why should anybody be proud of being of a certain nationality? That's no achievement. You can be happy to be born in a country that provides you with circumstances allowing you to live in peace, wealth and with education, medical services, food and so on. But Pride?

Because that never happens.
