As true as that may be, it has nothing to do with what I asked. O.o the owner had to let the cat out, knowing they had a possums bait trap-- especially this kind, which are usually baited with food.
This seems more idiotic on the owner's part than the cat's tbh.
Still a cute cat, though, and his "something went wrong somewhere :(" face is adorable
It could be an outdoor/barn cat. In that case, there's only so much that the owner can do. Sure you could bring them inside, but depending on the cat that could end poorly with wrecked belongings and other issues.
I really hope for the cats' sakes all the people down-voting on this never have to lay poison for mice or such.
If my cats really wanted to go out and I had a trap outside I'd either have the spray bottle at the ready, or, if I was leaving the house for any length of time, put them in the farthest room in the house, close the door just enough they'll have to work it open, and then go out. If it was still even a remote possibility, I'd even resort to putting them in a room with a litter box, water, and food. Seeing as the cat's safety is at risk if there's a possum on the loose in your yard frequently enough to warrant trapping, I'd be trying to make that a priority, personally.
Either way, don't see how trying to get food laid out by it's human in it's own yard would make the cat stupid, but I've lived with worse confusion before I suppose <.<
I have traps outside.. still fighting the infestation of 15' ... She's can't get in them though, she's way to big for the trap.. She treats it like the inanimate object it is and concerned herself with rabbits, birds and lizards. Thank god she can't catch the latter two.
