They do. However to put it in perspective, most of the top 50 murder rate cities in the world are in central, south, and North America. The United States has more cities on the top 50 murder list than South Africa (which only has 3, the highest ranked being 15th), and you have a greater statistical chance of being murdered in St Louis Missouri than in Cape Town. It’s a beautiful country as the post says, and the popular image of an impoverished and primitive Africa, or of a violent lawless hell scape is over blown and stigmatizes the country unfairly. New York of the 1970’s and 80’s or LA of the 80’s and 90’s was just about as dangerous, but given a few decades they were able to get things under control. So yeah, you’re probably safer staying in Sweden or in Mayberry than Capetown, but that’s true of most places anyway.
