Here's a clue, that's her way of saying she wants something you actually picked out, so it has more meaning, rather than her having to tell you what to get. Also, some people actually like to be surprised and having to tell you what to get kind of ruins that.
If my partner did this I'd lose my shit laughing. Makes me wonder what went through his mind to settle on a ladel. He had to have at least thought of something. He could've gotten a sock or a toothpick. But no it's a ladel.
It's more about expectations than her way of saying anything. Just because she doesn't have a particular preference doesn't mean she doesn't care at all.
