They did it there because of it's proximity to the equator, which would make it easier to launch rockets, and that it is close to the ocean so rocket parts don't fall on houses.

No, NASA is run by gator men from outta space. They lost their technology when they crash landed millions of years ago. Ever since then they’ve been trying to get back home and off this planet, but our shitty technology means they haven’t made it yet. But as the millenniums pass some are getting more stupid and devolve back to a prime ordeal state, they get kicked out by the leaders. So now they break in and roam the NASA buildings trying to remember who they used to be. Time is running out for all of them.
