Average people should set asides about 10-14 weeks to “diet down” 20lbs. With heavy exercise, figure maybe 7-10 weeks. You can loose weight faster- but it isn’t healthy. You can run the risk of gall stones or other complications. If looks are your concern, rapid weight loss is more likely to leave permanent saggy skin or stretch marks. “Cleanses” and “miracle drinks” can make you lose lots of weigh very quickly- but it’s all water weight and will immediately return. It also won’t really change how you look much, and may make you feel and perform like crap. A scale can be a fitness tool but weight doesn’t matter. If you have 70lbs of muscle and 5 lbs of fat you’ll look lighter and perform better than someone with 55lbs of fat and 25lbs of muscle. Eat decent enough, work out intelligently, and be patient. The body is slow to adapt but it will.

I agree about the scale part. I've weighed about the same for the last year but I've gone from a size 12 or 14 pants down to a size 8.

It sounds like that’s a goal you’ve set and you’re making good progress. If so, congratulations. There’s no one goal or one path to the same goal, but there is so much myth and misinformation out there. I hate to see all the people who get discouraged, or keep trying their hardest and not getting anywhere they want to be because of it. I was unhappy with my body and the first time I tried getting in shape I followed all the popular “magazine” advice which was all geared at getting lean. After toning up and losing weight I still wasn’t happy. I wasted a lot of time before I found out that all that advice is aimed at being “thin” and not being healthy or balanced. Once I went and studied nutrition and fitness, started strength and conditioning training I was much happier. Still learning every day- but always glad to hear someone is making progress.
