Not to mention they're my *ex,* so why, specifically, would I *do* anything. Even if we end on good terms, unless we're friends or have been in contact recently, 23 million is a lot of money just for somebody I used to know

Isn't there supposed to be something about not having insanely high bail ?

It can be based on both the defendants financial resources as well as the severity of the crimes, and potential flight risk factors

Also, bail is just for not having them wait in jail until the trial. So it's definitely a waste, especially if they're guilty

You get most of it back after you make all your court appearances, regardless of how the case ends. You only lose it if you skip town or mess up.

The whole point of the question is to get funny responses, hence why they went with "ex" in jail instead of someone like "spouse" or "mother"
