I might be wrong, but they're probably keeping the popular things like Clone Wars but ignoring/retconning the more obscure lore such as that from the comics or novels. Makes it easier to create new lore without digging to deep to keep continuity or avoid confusing fans too much.

Especially since Rebels IS canon, and lots of characters and unsolved problems from TCW are shown and addressed in that show
