It’s foolish to call it MANsplaining, but what it basically is is when a professional is “corrected” by someone who doesn’t know that they’re talking about, usually because the idiot assumes that the other person couldn’t possibly be a professional. Now, this underestimating thing happens a lot because of sexism, but there are other reasons.
@grimreaper I literally said that it was "foolish to call it MANsplaining".
Reminder that sexism goes both ways. Another example is maybe a man talking about raising kids, and some lady with no children assuming he knows nothing of it being condescending to him, even though he is actually a father. Another example would be an older person assuming that a younger person has no experience in say, economics, because the older person has been around longer. But the younger person actually went to a school for it. Like I said, "this underestimating thing happens a lot because of sexism, but there are other reasons"
The difference between this and being a condescending fuckstick is that this has an element of bigotry in it.
She specifically says critical of a woman’s gender based perspective on an issue- not her stance on an issue. There is a difference. If a woman says: “as a woman this event makes me feel....” what can a man say? “NO! As a woman you feel THIS WAY!” How does a man know what a woman feels unless she tells him? How does a man know what it’s like to be a woman? You can watch cop shows all day and not know what it’s like to be a cop. You an marry a cop and still not know exactly what that is like. So yeah- if she says “I’m a woman and I think Pepsi is better than Coke!” You can argue Pepsi is not better than coke. If she tells you that she is a woman and her experience tells her that she gets treated worse st work for it- what can you say to that? You couldn’t even tell a man that if he said “My boss treats me worse than everyone!” How do you know if you aren’t his boss or him? She isn’t saying you can’t debate women’s opinions,
She’s saying (regardless of gender really,) you can’t explain to someone why a feeling is “dumb” or “wrong” when they tell you how they feel, especially if it’s coming from a place you can’t understnd first hand. She’s saying women don’t want their feelings explained to them, they want people to consider the way things may effect women and men differently and act with consideration as if there were more than one type of person in the world.
