You do have rights as a worker (in the us) contact OSHA of you feel you're being wronged by an employer.

Most often, rights aren't being violated. It's perfectly legal but still inhumane

Now- you could go to OSHA, you have rights. But your rights don’t pay your bills if they fire you and cover up the retaliation. If they get shut down or lay off a bunch of workers. That’s if your employer even is actually breaking a law blatantly. Employers work around laws all the time through plausible deniability and other methods of “legal” abuses. These “legal” abuses are set up to prey on people they know can’t or won’t exercise their rights because for most, especially Those with families, working in hell is preferable to homelessness. Because if you leave McDonald’s and go to work at Wendy’s things will likely be very much the same. You could go to school but again- how do you hold down your family in the meantime? We can call it “excuses” or whatever and yeah, take one person and they can find a way out. But SOMEONE will need to take your place. It’s how things are designed. You think there’s no cost to a $5 item that usually costs $10 and comes with free shipping?

Hmmm, Yeah they are _always_ hiring... I guess peeing in bottles isn't an experience most people wanna go through on a daily basis

At my location, a woman in her 50s passed out on the job. This was last year and they weren't using air conditioning in the building yet (location has been open since 2015) besides in the office area where the supervisors and etc are. The temps would reach 102 inside during the summer. No lie. That lady passed out and the "Safety" team asked her if she was still okay to work.

@atlas_shrugging- fee things in life aren’t horror warapped in an easily swallowed candy shell. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to do better or change things, but it means the best intentions don’t always make the best decisions when made in haste. The system is a catch 22. Ask yourself this: why would people work for Amazon under such horrible conditions? Why wouldn’t they just leave? The answer is simple for most. If they had another option that paid their bills and fit their life circumstances- they would. That implies there either aren’t any other jobs they can get at that time which will allow them to live, or that any other jobs they could or have had are just as bad or worse. What that means is that not shopping at Amazon may cause a very small loss for billionaires. But it’s the private sellers running a abusiness and the workers who hate but need their job who will suffer first and most. Boycott is only a viable answer when you have a reputable alternative to support.

They’ll grow and hopefully in time absorb the workers that were caught in Amazon. But there’s a lag in time between when people start having it worse and being fired, and when new jobs appear. Until then they are on the outs. As for decent and reputable- until this thread you thought Amazon was reputable. They’re a major corporation and you’re hearing about this now with all the many thousands who could speak out. Imagine what could be going on in smaller companies you haven’t heard of and when or if you’d find out about it? Then there’s the fact that thanks to conglomerates and centralized supply chains, you can think you’re boycotting a business while actually putting money in their pocket third party the whole time. The system is a mess designed to obscure transparency. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Little things like not buying direct from Amazon sellers or minimizing amazon orders can put pressure on, writing letters to politicians and the company stating your objections etc.
