It would be really cool if we did this at graveyards--plant trees instead of headstones. Personally I'd like a giant oak tree planted over me and we would get some really nice wooded areas out of it.
Same. There are services that will essentially create a tree with a bag around the roots fulll of “you” as fertilizer. As the tree grows it uses your remains for nutrition. If we started doing this we could have areas where people just plant these trees of the dead, and you could go to those (eventually forests) and all your loved ones, ancestors, etc would all “be there.” They’d be totally protected land and serve a 4 fold purpose of monument, practical disposal of bodies that benefits the future, all the benefits of large forests, and as habitat. As a bonus I think that it would be comforting and very beautiful to see all these trees, towering and saplings, and know you were standing among and being shaded by those who came before. I’d like to see it become the default and eliminate traditional cemeteries which are a practical waste of space and resources. You also wouldn’t have 200 year old forgotten and intended headstones. Minus some general forestry care, the trees would stand.
Had this conversation a few months ago on a different post, and someone mentioned these things are available:

Basically instead of a coffin, you're inside a biodegradable egg, and the tree is planted where you're buried. Your death helps the tree grow. Probably creepy to some people, but I genuinely like the idea, and if it's not too expensive I'd definitely have it done
